Pirates | Joe Kerrigan, Gary Varsho fired
Pittsburgh Pirates manager John Russell has fired bench coach Gary Varsho and pitching coach Joe Kerrigan, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Varsho will be replaced on an interim basis by minor league field coordinator Jeff Bannister, who will join the team in San Diego Monday, Aug. 9. Kerrigan will be replaced on an interim basis by bullpen coach Ray Searage, who assumed duties Sunday, Aug. 8. "(Russell) felt strongly, and I agreed, that they were no longer the right fit for our staff," general manager Neal Huntington said in a prepared statement.
