Cardinals | Seeking outside pitching help
St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak is now seeking outside pitching help for the team's starting rotation, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Joe Strauss reports. Manager Tony La Russa and pitching coach Dave Duncan have lobbied for former Cards SP Jeff Suppan, who was just released by the Milwaukee Brewers. A club source also indicated an interest in Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Millwood, but he's still owed about $7.5 million of his $12 million salary. Kansas City Royals SP Brian Bannister is another option. The team is shying away from pitchers that have been idle this season like SPs Pedro Martinez, Braden Looper and John Smoltz.
