Rays | B.J. Upton works with hitting coach
Tampa Bay Rays OF B.J. Upton, who was benched for two games last week due to his offensive struggles, did some work with hitting coach Derek Shelton Thursday, May 27, and feels like he's closer to getting back on track, according to Joe Smith of the St. Petersburg Times. "No hard feelings," Upton said of manager Joe Maddon's decision to keep him out of the lineup. "I just expressed to him that I want to be on the field; that's it. I want to be out there every day. ... I think everybody needs (a mental break) sometimes. I just happen to feel I only needed one (game), not two." Maddon said Upton had expanded his strike zone and was also sorting through mechanical issues like getting started late on his swing.
