Cubs | Aramis Ramirez adjusts bat to help thumb injury
Chicago Cubs 3B Aramis Ramirez (thumb) was not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 29, because his thumb was still bothering him during his at-bats during the previous night's game, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat. Ramirez spent batting practice Saturday testing several tweaks to his bat designed to alleviate the pain caused to the base of his left thumb. "He's going to work with some things," manager Lou Piniella said. "We put a little doughnut on it, and we put some padding on the bat. He's going to change his grip a little bit, and he's going to try some things in (batting practice) here so we can get him to the point where it doesn't bother him when he swings." The adjustments are not expected to alter his swing.
