Raiders | Cleaning the Cluttered Backfield?

Steve Corkran reports for the Sporting News the Oakland Raiders will more than likely clear the glut in their offensive backfield through free agency. RBs Tyrone Wheatley, Napoleon Kaufman, Randy Jordan, Terry Kirby and Zack Crockett all saw time during the 2000 season in the backfield. There is some chance Crockett will not be re-signed due to the performance of Kirby. Kaufman, who went the whole 2000 season without scoring a TD, still has great speed but he could lose his spot to Jordan. Jordan is a much better receiver, more durable, plays on special teams and he makes far less money than Kaufman. Starting DL Grady Jackson is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right shoulder and he could miss much of the team's off-season workouts. That would mean more time for DT Junior Ioane.
