Cardinals | Wanted to re-sign Rackers
Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic, reports the Arizona Cardinals wanted to re-sign free-agent PK Neil Rackers and offered him a contract on the first day of free agency. The offer averaged close to $2 million a year, but it is possible Rackers and his agent, Robert Roche, had a problem with the way the money would be paid. The Cardinals recently signed PK Jay Feely, who they brought in for a visit while continuing to negotiate with Rackers. The club withdrew their original offer and told Roche the next one likely would be lower. According to source, Roche made a proposal higher than the team's original offer and the team countered with an offer lower than their original. However, Roche claims he made a counter-proposal to the team's first offer and general manager Rod Graves told him several times that he was reviewing the budget and would get back to him.
