Lions | DeVries requested release

Updating a previous item, Nicholas J. Cotsonika, of the Detroit Free Press, reports free-agent DE Jared DeVries (Lions) requested his release so he could test the free-agent market before free agency begins March 5. The Detroit Lions were unsure about DeVries' recovery from a torn Achilles' tendon, and were planning to release him before paying a $400,000 roster bonus due to him in a couple of weeks. DeVries said, "They just didn't want to make the commitment, for whatever reason. My Achilles is fine, but I can understand their caution. I predicate the opportunity to let me explore the options and also appreciate the opportunity to possibly come back."
