Saints | Bellamy Helps Draft

Jeff Duncan reports for the Times Picayune the addition of S Jay Bellamy helps the New Orleans Saints when it comes to the NFL Draft as well. Coach Jim Haslett said the team no longer has any specific needs, and they can focus on the best player available in the early rounds. As previously reported, Bellamy will replace Darren Perry at free safety and team with Sammy Knight to give the Saints a nearly interchangeable pair of hard-hitting veterans. Bellamy's deal included a minimum level salary ($477,000) for this season, making his 2001 cap hit a modest $627,000.
