Royals | Arguelles agrees to deal

The Kansas City Royals have agreed to a five-year, $7 million major league deal with Cuban P Noel Arguelles, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports. An unnamed club source reports that he can earn an additional $2 million in club incentives. In order for the deal to become official, Arguelles still needs to pass a physical and the Royals need to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for him. He is currently in the Dominican Republic and is expected to fly to Kansas City later this week. Scouts who have watched Arguelles pitch expect him to begin the season at Class A, but believe he will rise quickly through the minor league system once he becomes accustomed to American baseball due to his major-league contract.
