Chiefs | Team Notes

The Kansas City Star reports although the Chiefs potential trade for Rams QB Trent Green is not quite dead yet and the Chiefs may still surrender their No. 1 draft pick for him, they are planning for the NFL Draft as though they still have their pick. Coach Dick Vermeil and GM Carl Peterson have expressed reluctance to deal the Chiefs first-round pick, although neither has ruled it out. The Chiefs are still trying to complete a deal that has them swapping first-round picks, but so far the Rams are not biting. Peterson does not like to trade his picks and he called some recent trades involving No. 1 picks for QBs "foolish." The last time the Chiefs were without a first- or second-round pick was 1993, when they traded their top choice to San Francisco for QB Joe Montana. The Chiefs also know keeping the pick does not guarantee they will draft a future star.
