Browns | Heiden cleared for contact drills

Marla Ridenour, of The Akron Beacon Journal, reports Cleveland Browns TE Steve Heiden (knee) was cleared for contact drills earlier this week. Head coach Eric Mangini is excited to have him back on the field, as the Browns are looking to fill a big hole in the starting lineup with the loss of TE Kellen Winslow during the offseason. Mangini said he likes Heiden because he has soft hands, the ability to read defenses to the point where he knows where to sit down in the zone and he can be an effective blocker. Zach Swartz, of The Columbus Dispatch, reports Heiden took part in his first practice Monday, Aug. 3.
