MLB | Backe has torn rotator cuff
The Houston Chronicle's Jose De Jesus Ortiz reports free-agent SP Brandon Backe (shoulder) has a partial thickness tear in his right rotator cuff and might have surgery after he gets a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews. Soon after he was released, he informed the Houston Astros he couldn't move his arm above the shoulder. The Astros then had Backe checked by team physician Dr. Dave Lintner, who diagnosed the tear. The Astros, who will pick up the medical costs, have been informed Dr. Andrews already has scheduled surgery, which is likely.
