Royals | House to catch, play first at Omaha
MLB.com's Dick Kaegel reports Kansas City Royals minor league C J.R. House will primarily catch at Triple-A Omaha but could also be used in a platoon at first base, according to Royals assistant general manager J.J. Picollo. "We signed him to catch," said Picollo. "We thought J.R. was a good fit. He can also play first, he's a right-handed hitter and with [1B] Kila [Ka'aihue] in Triple-A, we could have a right-left combination at first base as well." The 29-year-old House has 32 games of major league experience between the Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros, but has hit just .167 (10-for-60) with three homers in those games. In contrast, he has a career .310 average with 108 homers and 509 RBIs in 817 minor league contests.
