Athletics | Smith has surgery's Mychael Urban reports Oakland Athletics SP Greg Smith (elbow) had surgery Friday, Oct. 24, to remove loose bodies from his pitching elbow, and is expected to be ready for spring training. He'll be sidelined for six to eight weeks after suffering a freak injury at home recently, according to assistant general manager David Forst. "Apparently, he was going to sit down and braced himself on a chair when he felt a pop," said Forst. "The doctors speculated that maybe he had a bone spur that became dislodged, so they went in and cleaned some things out."
