Dale Earnhardt Inc. | Smith drops to 18th because of rule violation at Talladega

NASCAR.com reports Dale Earnhardt Inc. driver Regan Smith was actually the first to cross the finish line during the AMP Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway Sunday, Oct. 5. However, Smith was forced to dip below the yellow line while passing Joe Gibbs Racing driver Tony Stewart. NASCAR views that as Smith being out of bounds, so he was demoted to an 18th-place finish in the race. Smith felt he was forced over the line by Stewart and that it was allowed in the rules when another driver forces you beyond the line.
