Panthers | Lewis Note

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers QB Jeff Lewis, recently demoted from starting QB, worked with the team's fourth string offense in practice today. Lewis stood idly on the sidelines as rookie Chris Weinke, slated to start Friday's final preseason game against Cleveland, and backups Dameyune Craig and Matt Lytle took most of the reps in practice. Coach George Seifert said it wasn't accurate to call Lewis the fourth-stringer. Seifert added he had no plans to release Lewis on Tuesday. Weinke will play the first half of Friday's pre-season game and Craig and Lytle are likely to play a quarter each.
