49ers | Haralson earns performance-based pay
Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers LB Parys Haralson earned a $226,221 paycheck through the NFL's performance-based pay system, which rewards lower salary players for playing time. Haralson's additional pay ranked him 25th in the league. According to the league, approximately $100 million in performance-based pay was distributed to players who qualified. The system was created as part of the NFL's 2002 Collective Bargaining Agreement extension with the NFL Players Association. It creates a fund used as a supplemental form of player compensation based on comparing salary to playing time. The fund increases by a fixed amount of five percent each year. Haralson earned $360,000 in base salary last season but played in all 16 games and started the final 11 games of the season for the 49ers. He had 2.5 sacks and 21 quarterback pressures.
