Rangers | Botts will serve as backup at first base, DH
MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports Texas Rangers DH/1B Jason Botts has earned a reserve role on the club and will be used at first base and as a right-handed-hitting designated hitter. He also has the ability to play in the outfield. Botts, a switch-hitter, carried a .357 average into play Tuesday, March 25. Rangers manager Ron Washington said the decision to choose Botts over several other players for the last bench spot was not an easy one. "Botts just did what we asked him to do," said Washington. "His game has improved. He worked hard on his game and showed he could improve."
