Bears | Team calls for hearing with San Francisco

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports a hearing is scheduled for Monday, March 17, to help determine if the San Francisco 49ers tampered with Chicago Bears LB Lance Briggs or his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, during the 2007 NFL season. A near-trade between the two teams for Briggs collapsed right before the deadline, and the Bears believe the 49ers may have contacted Rosenhaus regarding a contract before being granted permission to do so. If the 49ers are found guilty, the team could lose draft picks and/or a fine would be likely. Bears team president Ted Phillips, general manager Jerry Angelo and possibly head coach Lovie Smith are expected to appear at the hearing.
