Indians | Lara has spinal and brain injuries
Updating a continuing story, the Associated Press reports Cleveland Indians RP Juan Lara (spinal fracture, brain trauma) remains hospitalized in critical condition in the Dominican Republic following a weekend car accident in which a motorcycle struck his sports utility vehicle. While examining Lara, doctors there determined he also has a spinal fracture and severe brain trauma. "Juan's condition is very fragile," said hospital spokeswoman Dashira Martinez. "In the last medical report we found that he has a severe brain trauma, and we also found a fracture in the spinal column, with the D2 (second vertebra) in an unstable condition." According to Martinez, doctors have not yet determined whether Lara will have any paralysis, but are giving it more time.
