Devil Rays | Wilson pitches scoreless inning of relief
Bill Chastain, of TampaBay.DevilRays.MLB.com, reports Tampa Bay Devil Rays IF Josh A. Wilson threw one scoreless inning of relief Friday, June 8, allowing just one single and a walk. Manager Joe Maddon chose to use the utility infielder to pitch the eighth as relief pitchers Brian Stokes, Tim Corcoran and Chad Orvella had just allowed eight runs and walked seven batters. Wilson, who had not pitched since high school, was the first non-pitcher to take the mound for the Devil Rays since retired 3B Wade Boggs pitched on Aug. 10, 1999.
