Giants | Vizquel interested in extension

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat's Jeff Fletcher reports San Francisco Giants SS Omar Vizquel is interested in playing through the 2009 season and hopes a contract extension can be worked out before the season ends. Vizquel and his agent plan to sit down and discuss the issue with Giants general manager Brian Sabean at some point this spring. Vizquel, who turns 40 early in the season, is in the final year of a three-year deal but believes he still has plenty left in the tank. If he continues to play he could become the all-time leader in games played by a shortstop, as he needs 157 games to break the mark held by Luis Aparicio.
