Devil Rays | McGriff named special adviser to club
The Tampa Tribune's Marc Lancaster reports former major-league baseball player Fred McGriff, who played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at one point, agreed to a one-year contract with Tampa Bay as a club special adviser. He will have a wide range of duties, from community outreach to television and radio broadcasting to on-field instruction during spring training. "They've got a young group of players over there; I'll try to help out some of the kids," McGriff said. "I don't want to be the hitting coach. Steve Henderson does a great job, and he's the hitting coach, but if different kids want some advice or whatever, you give your opinion and go on with it."
