Giants | Police & courts: Brown fire being investigated as arson
Updating an earlier item, the Associated Press' Monica Rhor reports a mysterious fire that led to the death of former San Francisco Giants 3B Chris Brown is being investigated by local police as arson. Brown's two-story home in the Houston, Tx., suburb of Sugar Land caught fire around 1:30 a.m. Nov. 30. Four hours later a gravely injured Brown showed up at a nearby hospital, but police don't know how he got there or who may have set the fire. Brown died from his injuries Dec. 26. Police have not ruled out anyone, including Brown, as a suspect in the arson. However, former Crenshaw High School teammate and major league OF Darryl Strawberry said he was sure Brown wasn't the instigator. "Chris never harmed anyone in his life," said Strawberry. "He's not going to kill himself. He's not going to hurt anyone else. I know that for a fact. Something happened, and they need to find out what happened."
