Falcons | Spine injury could end Mathis' career

Steve Wyche, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports Atlanta Falcons S Kevin Mathis (spine) suffered a possible career-ending spinal injury during the Week 9 game. Mathis was placed on Injured Reserve, ending his 2006 season. Mathis is expected to make a full recovery, but this is his second significant spinal injury in five years. The team did not disclose the specific injury, but they did say Mathis would not need surgery.
