Colts | Simon likely has polyarthritis
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Indianapolis Colts DT Corey Simon (illness) has been diagnosed with what is likely polyarthritis, a condition that causes inflammation and affects multiple joints. Simon and the team learned of the diagnosis after tests by specialists from the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minn., determined that the condition was not football-related. The diagnosis would allow the team to not pay his 2005 base salary of $2.5 million. An NFL Players Association official told Mortensen that the union assumes the Colts won't pay him because they placed him on the Non-Football Illness/Injury list. The union plans to appeal.
