Eagles | Smith wants to play a whole, solid year

Reuben Frank, of, reports Philadelphia Eagles TE L.J. Smith is looking to play one solid year of good football. In 2005, Smith was among the top tight ends in the NFL with 34 catches for 350 yards in the team's first six games. After that, QB Donovan McNabb's sports hernia grew worse and eventually ended his season and WR Terrell Owens was suspended. The last 10 games, the Eagles went 2-8 and Smith caught just 27 passes for 332 yards. Smith is entering his fourth NFL season, once again striving to elevate himself into the NFL's elite. Only six tight ends in the league had more than his eight catches of 20 or more yards last season. The Eagles signed veteran TE Matt Schobel to take some pressure off Smith, who's been the Eagles' only real receiving threat since TE Chad Lewis got hurt in the 2004 NFC Championship Game.
