NFL | Clarett not signed yet; but probably soon
Brian Lavrich, of the Tribune Chronicle, reports the Mahoning Valley HitMen have said for weeks that NFL free agent RB Maurice Clarett (Broncos) will suit up and play this winter. Clarett attended a team news conference Thursday, July 13. "This is a great opportunity for me to get back onto the football field," Clarett said. "This is a step back to the NFL. The one thing I can do is play football." Clarett denied signing a contract, but, when asked whether he was going to play with the HitMen, he said he's, "One hundred percent sure." Neither Clarett nor HitMen general manager/coach Jim Terry would elaborate on what the sticking point is in contract negotiations. They did reveal that the contract would be for two years. Clarett said he was in negotiations with the Mahoning Valley Thunder, Youngstown's ArenaFootball2 team, but they didn't offer enough money.
