Giants | R. Johnson excited to be back

Paul Schwartz, of the New York Post, reports New York Giants QB Rob Johnson is excited to be back in the NFL after being away from the game for two years. Two years is how long Johnson wondered if the ulnar collateral ligament operation to his right elbow, better known as Tommy John surgery, would ever allow him to again fire the ball up to NFL standards. Johnson is hoping he's healthy enough to assume the backup quarterback role behind starting QB Eli Manning. "If I get back to where I was throwing the ball there's no question I'll make the team," Johnson said. The Giants saw enough in a private workout to believe Johnson will be ready to roll by training camp in late July. "If the team needs me to win a couple of games, that'll be great," Johnson said. "If not, I'm just here to give Eli some support. My dad's a football coach, I understand team. I've started a few years but predominately I've been a backup, so I'm very comfortable. I'm not a problem in the locker room."
