Jets | Costanzo just trying to make the team
Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports New York Jets rookie free agent Blake Costanzo is trying to make the team in any way possible. Jets' head coach Eric Mangini has said that his base defense won't be a 3-4 front or a 4-3, but will be whatever helps the Jets beat a particular opponent and Costanzo agrees. "There is no base defense," said Costanzo. "We've got such a big playbook and so many ways we can attack an offense." Even though his size (6 feet 1, 235 pounds) might make him better-suited to play inside in a Mangini/Patriots-style 3-4, Costanzo said he had no feel for whether he'll be strong side or weak side, inside or outside come training camp. "We're learning all the linebacker positions," he said. "We're learning everything." Costanzo will have to make his mark on special teams to make the team and he's off to a good start there. Special teams coach Mike Westhoff is believed to be intrigued by Costanzo's possibilities as a specialist.
