AFC Players Of The Week

The NFL has named Tennessee Titans QB Steve McNair, Pittsburgh Steelers LB Levon Kirkland and Baltimore Ravens PK Matt Stover as the AFC's Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the 16th week of the 1999 season. McNair completed 23 of 33 passes for 291 yards and five touchdowns for a 136.5 passer rating in the Titans 41-14 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He completed nine of his 10 third-down attempts and also rushed for 34 yards on four carries. He is the third player in franchise history to throw five touchdown passes in a game (George Blanda, five times; Warren Moon, three times. This is McNair's first Player of the Week award. Kirkland had a team-high 10 tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles in the Steelers 30-20 win over the Carolina Panthers. Eleven minutes into the first quarter with the Steelers leading 7-0 and facing a Carolina second-and-one on their own one-yard line, Kirkland stripped the ball from Panthers' RB Fred Lane on a rushing attempt. Pittsburgh safety Travis Davis recovered the fumble and returned it 102 yards for a touchdown, the second-longest fumble return touchdown in NFL history. This is Kirkland's second Player of the Week award. Stover connected on five of five FG attempts and one PAT for 16 points in the Ravens 22-0 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Stover has 113 points this season, matching his career high. This is Stovers third Player of the Week award and his second this season.
