The AP reports that the 49ers held several workouts for RBs as they are looking for insurance for the Garrison Hearst injury and that those workouts went well. Charlie Garner and Harvey Williams, as expected, worked out for the 49ers, while Terry Allen talked with team officials at the club's Santa Clara headquarters. Allen, who also has visited the Kansas City Chiefs and contrary to other reports, says he will now talk to New England Patriots, said there was no reason to work out for the 49ers. "If I go out and blow an ankle here and have to work out for someone else, what good does that do me?" Allen said. "Anyone can look good running through cones." Garner said he also plans to talk with Tennessee and Oakland, while Williams plans to visit with New England on Saturday. The highest praise for the RBs visiting was saved for Lawrence Phillips. "He did very well in Europe, not only on the field but off the field," the 49ers Bill Walsh said. "His behavior and his demeanor have been excellent."
