Panthers | Oliver Making A Bid

The Charlotte Observer reports that Carolina Panthers RB Winslow Oliver is trying hard to retain his punt return job, which in turn may save his roster spot. Special teams coach Scott O'Brien is teaching him a new technique in an effort to improve on his average per return. We want him having his feet together, staggered in front, not sideways," O'Brien said. "He was losing way too much time. When (opponents) are on top of you, to be able to make them miss, obviously you have to have your feet under you. In his case, from the catching position, he had to bring them back together so he could move. In a lot of cases, that's too late." WRs Todd Kinchen, Iheanyi Uwaezuoke and Rae Carruth along with backup CB Michael Swift are expected to compete with Oliver for the punt returner's job.
