Steelers | Haynes could have larger role for 2006 season

Mike Prisuta, of the Tribune-Review, reports Pittsburgh Steelers RB Verron Haynes could have a larger role in the team's offense for the 2006 season. Currently, RB Willie Parker is the starting running back and RB Duce Staley will replace retired RB Jerome Bettis, but the coaching staff is not forgetting about Haynes. Head coach Bill Cowher said, "Verron Haynes is a guy you can't overlook." Runnings backs coach Dick Hoak said Haynes is a good short-yardage runner and goal-line back. When asked if Haynes was capable of more, Cowher said, "We're going to let that thing unfold. I don't have any preconceived thoughts going in. I'd like to let it play out and see where it goes from there."
