The Associated Press reports former Miami Dolphins S Gene Atkins was sentenced to three years probation Tuesday, Jan. 31, as part of a plea deal in connection to charges stemming from a domestic violence call to his home. He could have faced five years in prison if convicted on all 20 of the charges he initially had against him. In May 2004 Atkins was arrested and zapped with a stun gun his wife told police her husband had shoved her against a wall, bit her, choked her and hit her with a remote control, a police report said.
