Celeste Smith and Cleve Wootson, of the Charlotte Observer, report LB Mark Fields, formerly of the Carolina Panthers, faces criminal charges including driving under the influence after being arrested last month in Arizona. Fields was stopped Dec. 29, after a police officer who was part of a group DUI task force spotted him drifting out of his lane and driving 30 in a 25 mph zone, according to police Lt. Joe Ruet of the Gilbert Police Department. After stopping Fields, who police said smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. Fields received seven criminal charges, including three charges related to DUI; speeding; unsafe lane usage; giving false information to police when asked if he had been drinking; and having an open liquor container within a vehicle. He was cited and released, and is scheduled to appear in Scottsdale Municipal Court Wednesday, Jan. 9.
