Ravens | Happy With Swayne

The Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens are very happy with their signing of OL Harry Swayne as they can now focus their first-round draft pick on a different position. VP Ozzie Newsome says he has discussed trading up with the Colts at No. 4 and the Rams at No. 6 but that despite earlier reports he has not talked to the Redskins about moving to No. 5. (Strange we would like No. 4 or No. 6 but not No. 5?) Newsome remains optimistic the team can still swing a trade with the Lions for Scott Mitchell. "I spoke yesterday with Chuck Schmidt (Lions chief operating officer) and there is a willingness to make the trade," Newsome said. "We're still working on compensation, but I'm optimistic. As for the addition of Harry Swayne, this eliminates us taking an offensive lineman with the first pick and allows us to select a player who will have an impact on our future." At TE the team is still interested in Seattle's Christian Fauria, ex-Giants TE Aaron Pierce and possibly the Patriots Lovett Purnell (see below). Saints OL Clarence Jones cancelled his meeting with the Ravens when Swayne was signed. Coach Brian Billick also confirmed he has some interest in QB Warren Moon. The team has been discussing a trade with San Diego for QB Jim Harbaugh but acquiring Mitchell from the Lions may be a first step to dealing Harbaugh.
