Padres | Smith's Revamped Swing Effective in AFL Play
Padres.MLB.com's Lyle Spencer reports San Diego Padres prospect IF Corey Smith had great success in the Arizona Fall League after changing his batting stance with the help of Padres Minor League hitting instructor Rob Deer. Smith went on to hit .330 with seven home runs and 21 RBI in 24 games with the Surprise Scorpions. "I've spread out a little, with a little lift of my front foot," said the 23-year-old Smith, a former 2000 first-round pick by the Cleveland Indians. "It's similar to what (St. Louis Cardinals 1B Albert) Pujols does, just not as exaggerated off the ground. The whole idea is to get myself in a good position to unload."
