Mariners | Team Unsure Whether to Replace Gillick

Updating previous items, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's Jon Paul Morosi reports the Seattle Mariners haven't yet decided whether to replace former special assistant Pat Gillick, who left to become the general manager for the Philadelphia Phillies. The club already has two other special assistants, John Boles and Dan Evans. The club's budget for the next fiscal year likely won't contain money for an additional position, although Mariners Chief Operating Officer Chuck Armstrong could authorize discretionary funds to pay for a replacement. If it were decided to fill the position, a likely candidate would be Baltimore Orioles consultant Jim Beattie.
