Braves | More on McDowell

Updating an earlier item, the Associated Press reports Atlanta Braves pitching coach Roger McDowell spent 12 years in the big leagues and most recently served as pitching coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers' Triple-A Las Vegas club for two seasons. "We are absolutely thrilled to add Roger to our staff," said Braves manager Bobby Cox. "Roger was a great competitor as a player - he started, he relieved and he even fought through arm problems, so he comes in with a great level of experience that our pitchers will learn from." Most of McDowell's 723 appearances came in relief. "He is one of the true up-and-coming teachers of the game," Cox said. "He has a great knowledge of pitching, and the reviews and evaluations we had on him were tremendous."
