Cowboys | Nguyen Working at WLB in 3-4 Defense
Tom Orsborn, of the San Antonio Express-News, reports one of the biggest concerns about the Dallas Cowboys' change from a 4-3 defensive scheme to a 3-4 alignment is that LB Dat Nguyen, at 5-11 and 238 pounds, is too small to be successful in the scheme. The 3-4 scheme calls for inside linebackers to take on guards. To make it easier on Nguyen, Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells moved him to the weak-side linebacker position rather than the strong-side spot. The weak-side position, called the "Jack" by the coaching staff, lines up on the side away from the tight end. "The 'Jack' in the 3-4 has historically been the highest tackle-producing position," said Parcells. "Dat's got range. He's a good tackler."
