Buccaneers | Taylor could Land Roster Spot
Michael Rothstein, of the Daily News-Record, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Jermaine Taylor has a shot to land a spot on the team's final roster. "He has some traits that light up on the way we evaluate players, like the way he can move," said Tampa Bay general manager Bruce Allen. "With the style of our defense, you need to be able to run and be able to react quickly out of the break and that, clearly, is Jermaine's strength." He's been training at the Buccaneers' facilities in Tampa every day during the offseason. If Taylor makes Tampa Bay's roster, it will be based on his special teams' contributions – not his ability at the linebacker slot. Allen said all of Tampa's non-starting linebackers make the team based on special-teams play. Defensive production is why Taylor might fit in best in the scheme devised by Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin Allen said Taylor has a shot at making the Buccaneers. "We have to cut seven players this week and he isn't a consideration for that," Allen said.
