Chiefs | Punting Problems may finally be Solved
Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports the Kansas City Chiefs may have finally solved their punting problems with the addition of rookie P Dustin Colquitt. The high, arching punts of Colquitt were an offseason delight for the Chiefs. Colquitt's kicks consistently baffled even veteran and sure-handed punt returners such as Dante' Hall and Eddie Kennison. In offseason practices, both players fought Colquitt's punts with all they had. "Dante dropped one every day, and Dante never drops one," head coach Dick Vermeil said. "This is the first time he's ever had problems. He told me he's been using his game-day concentration and he was still having problems." One of the biggest reasons Colquitt was drafted was returners' inability to get a consistent grip on his punts. Colquitt is left-footed and left-footed punts rotate differently and take some getting used to. He also generally has really good hang-time on his punts.
