Cowboys | Zimmer Working Hard with 3-4 Defense
Charean Williams, of the Star-Telegram, reports Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is working hard this offseason learning the 3-4 defensive scheme so he can teach his players how to play in that scheme. The Cowboys, who have used the 4-3 since their inception in 1960, are one of three teams planning to switch to the 3-4 this season. The 3-4 requires a big nose tackle and a speedy pass rusher, which current Cowboys coach Bill Parcells had in New York when he made the 3-4 famous. "The principles are the same in all the defenses," Zimmer said. "But it's the way you do it and the way the fits are and the way the techniques are, a lot of different things are different."
