NFL | Mathis Believes NFL is Not Vet Friendly
Tommy Hicks, of the Mobile Register, reports former NFL WR Terance Mathis believes the NFL's current salary system unfairly pushes battle-tested veterans to the unemployed line prematurely. "After eight or nine years (of service), you have to pay some guys more, and some teams think that salary is too much," Mathis, a 13-year NFL veteran said. "Veteran players are being punished by the salary cap, and I think that's wrong. Guys 30-, 31-, 32- (years-old), now they're out of the league." Mathis was released by the Atlanta Falcons in 2002 due to his salary cap figure and played his final year with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
