Orioles | Saunders Signs; Comes out of Retirement
ESPN.com reports the Baltimore Orioles signed P Tony Saunders (Devil Rays) to a minor-league contract. Saunders, 30, announced his retirement in 2000 after he violently broke his left arm twice in a 15-month span while a prospect with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Orioles scout Ty Brown, who signed Saunders to contract with the Florida Marlins as a non-drafted free agent in 1992, watched him pitch over the winter and recommended him to Baltimore.
