Royals | More on Mateo

Updating a previous item, Dick Kaegel, of Royals.MLB.com, reports the Kansas City Royals would like to keep OF Ruben Mateo in the organization if he goes through waivers, according to Royals MAN Tony Pena. The Royals designated him for assignment Sunday, Aug. 22. The outfielder had gone hitless in 21 at-bats since Aug. 11, and was hitting .194 overall in 32 games with no home runs and just seven RBI. "Mateo still has a lot of tools," said Pena. "Everybody in this organization liked what they saw. He has not produced right now but, defensively, he's handled himself real well. He has a very, very strong arm."
