Devil Rays | McGriff Designated

The Associated Press reports the Tampa Bay Devil Rays designated 1B Fred McGriff for assignment Saturday, July 17. The 40-year-old struggled this year, hitting only .181 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 27 games, and remains seven home runs short of 500 for his career. The club has 10 days to trade him, send him outright to the minors or place him on waivers.
