49ers | Mitrione Finally Pain Free
SF49ers.com reports San Francisco 49ers DL Matt Mitrione (foot) has finally recovered from a fractured navicular bone in his right foot suffered during his senior year in college nearly three years ago. After playing through the pain in his first NFL season, Mitrione's injury worsened before requiring surgery in January 2003. All told, he went through five separate surgeries before finally shedding crutches this offseason. "Basically from January 8 to December 20, 2003, I wasn't able to take a weight bearing step on that foot," Mitrione said. "It's been a long process, but I feel very, very good right now. There's no pain and when I'm on the field I don't think about it at all. I think from here on out I will only gain confidence."
