Broncos | Jury Rules Split Decision In Ownership Lawsuit
The Denver Post reports a U.S. District Court jury has found Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen did violate the terms of his 1984 purchase of the team when he offered a 20 percent stake in the NFL franchise to former Broncos QB John Elway. Former Broncos owner Edgar Kaiser sued Bowlen, claiming an agreement required Bowlen to offer any sale of the team to Kaiser first. However, the jury also found Bowlen did not violate a promise he would be the sole owner of the team by allocating shares of the Broncos to members of his own family. The ruling does not mean there will be any abrupt change in the team's ownership. However, if there is not a settlement in the case, a new jury will be assembled in federal court to determine what damages Bowlen owes Kaiser, which could possibly include a share of the team.
